Meet the Acupuncturist
Crystal Geary, Dipl. O.M.
Licensed Acupuncturist and Herbalist
Crystal has always had a curiosity for learning about various cultures. Her inquisitive nature and thirst for knowledge led her to get her first Bachelors degree in Anthropology from the University of Pittsburgh. She studied abroad in Indonesia where she learned Indonesian language, culture, and experienced traditional eastern medicine. Her interests led her to Japan where she lived for a few years teaching English. She was at a conference in Tokyo and was struggling in pain due to a lower back spasm from a fall on a skateboard straight to her tailbone. Someone suggested acupuncture might help, so she tried it and was amazed at the results and how quickly her symptoms improved.
After returning to the U.S. Crystal continued to search for “her calling”. She had an intuitive knowing that there was a job out there that she was destined to do. She was not going to stop her searching until she found the work that she felt a sincere passion for. She had always valued more natural approaches to health and wellness. She studied yoga and became a certified teacher. She enjoyed teaching yoga and helping people improve their health and wellbeing, but wanted to add more tools to her toolbox to be able to help people achieve their health goals. She felt very drawn to acupuncture and received acupuncture treatments regularly. She was continuously impressed by the medicine. It was intriguing to her how the treatments not only improved her main complaints, but also the “positive side effects” of acupuncture and how things that she wasn’t necessarily coming in to get treated for also improved. She noticed that when her body was in balance her overall quality of life improved on mental, physical, and emotional levels. She recognized the importance of Oriental medicine as a holistic form of medicine and its potential for preventative health. She loved sharing this new awareness and was truly inspired. She realized that this was the career path that she was searching for.
Crystal continued her education at Dragon Rises College of Oriental medicine earning a second Bachelors degree in Health Sciences and her Masters degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. She was a very dedicated student and graduated with a 4.0 GPA. Her studies focused on Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, Chinese Herbology, and Western Biomedicine. She was thoroughly trained in various other Oriental Medicine modalities such as moxibustion, cupping, tui na, qi gong, gua sha, and more. Her education provided exceptional training on the science and art of pulse diagnosis, and greatly emphasized the importance of accurate diagnosis.
Crystal is a Diplomate in Oriental Medicine certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) the highest certification offered.
